Tonight, my friend Cole came up with this phenomenal idea to create a fort… in the middle of downtown Orlando!
We were able to get a part of the street closed at midnight and so we started setting up some rope and putting sheets all over the place. Once we were done, we invited people in. There were some lawn chairs inside if you wanted to just hang out, a mirror where you could take your picture and hashtag it on Instagram, and a section with a light creating shadows.
It was phenomenal to see people interact with the environment and even their reactions to the idea of fort. I was outside inviting people (aka screaming: “WELCOME TO THE FORT”) inside, and a lot of people who were initially just going to walk on by stopped and became curious about the concept! So many people left with a huge smile across their face.
October is National Arts and Humanities month, so every day this month there’s going to be something going on, whether it be a street performance, or dance, or a photobooth; there’s always something new! What I’m most excited about, but bummed I’ll be out of town for, is that Cirque du Soleil and their dancers are going to do a performance on the 26th of this month in front of city hall!
I love being a part of this, and I love that Orlando is this place. So much talent and culture that, until now, were undiscovered to the community!
Heck yeah, Creative City Project.
